At Juma Lodge a welcome drink prepared with exotics fruits awaits you. Lunch, a creative fusion between international and Amazon cuisine is then served. The afternoon activity is a reconnaissance tour through the igarapés (Amazonian creeks) and the igapós (flooded forest) in motorized canoes. Return to the Juma Lodge. At night, go out in a canoe ride to observe the night fauna and meet alligators, frogs and birds. Stay alert to the mysterious sounds of the forest and the starry sky.
2nd Day
The day begins with a delicious breakfast of fruits and regional food, specially developed for your stay in the jungle. Depart for a jungle hike. There, listen to the macaw’s and toucan’s sounds, breathe the scent of jungle flowers, feel the surprising softness of the damp leaves covering the ground. All tours are led by our expert local guides. They will choose the best place to set up camp. After a barbecue lunch, be prepared to assist with the set up of a rustic hut, known as rabo de jacu. With the help of the guides, take part in the construction of the walls and roofs. Dinner. Night fishing for regional fish using only a canoe and a zagaia (spear), the same technique used by local Indians. Spend the night in the jungle, sleeping in hammocks.
3rd Day
Early in the morning we will leave for a sunrise excursion, witnessing the transformation of the dark water of the Juma River into a mirror of the sights and sounds of the waking birds leaving their nests for another day. Breakfast. Visit to the house of a local native to learn more about their fascinating culture, including the manual production of manioc flour and the handcrafting of wallets and shoes out of rubber sap. Lunch at the Juma Lodge. Travel on a paddle canoe, just like the locals, while contemplating the dense vegetation, the height and width of the trees, the bird’s and monkey’s sounds. Everything is so amazing! Dinner. At night experience the forest from a different perspective – it is beautifully illuminated by the bright stars, the moon, and even the shine of the leaves! Overnight in the jungle.
4th Day
Breakfast. Return to the Juma Lodge and enjoy the exchange of experiences with our local guides. Visit an herbarium, a medicinal plant farm in a local community. Lunch. Take an afternoon tour to learn more about the Amazon’s flora. Enjoy gathering (and eating) typical regional fruits such as Brazil Nuts, cupuaçu, and açaí. On the way back to the Lodge see the gorgeous sunset and the birds. Overnight at the Juma Lodge.
5th Day
Breakfast. Return to Manaus. On the way back see a Sumaúma, the largest tree of the Amazon. Another important stop to see the meeting of the waters, the spot where the muddy waters of the Solimões River and the black waters of the Negro River run side by side, without mixing, to form the great Amazonas River. By request, the guide will take you to a dive spot, where you can feel for yourself the 8o C (14 o F) difference in temperature between the two rivers. A truly unique experience. Arrive at 11:30 a.m. at the airport or at your hotel in Manaus.
