Submerged in the dense Amazon forest, the Aracá Camp puts you in touch with its exuberant landscape: white sandy beaches, countless lagoons and dark waters of the Aracá River, habitat of the most ferocious predator fish of the Amazon: the Peacock Bass (locally called Tucunaré). Fishing in the upper Negro River is ruled by the fluctuation of water level. The season begins when the water levels drop, this happens from October thru March.
The Aracá Camp professional team is made up of a manager, fishing guides, cooking and service staff, who all work together to make our guests feel at home. Our manager has a deep understanding of the region and is a knowledgeable fisherman who will be at your service at all times during your stay.

Most common peacock bass subspecies found in the Aracá River
The Peacock Pavon: The Peacock Pavon (cichla temensis), often called "Açu", is dusky green on the dorsal surface, blending to a golden color on its sides. It is characterized by three black vertical bars along each side, and black irregular patches situated behind the eye on the cheek. This species can grow in excess of twenty seven pounds.
The Speckled Pavon: The speckled pavon (cichla temensis), often called the "paca," is typically the darkest of the peacock bass. This subspecies possesses three dark vertical bars, as well as a series of white spots, running along the length to their bodies. The world record peacock bass - a twenty seven pound monster - was a speckled variety. Many experienced peacock anglers believe that this is the most powerful of the subspecies.
The Butterfly Pavon: The butterfly pavon (chichla ocellaris), is the most colorful and plentiful member of the peacock bass family. It can be distinguished from other pavon subspecies by three black circular blotches along each side of the body. Butterfly peacocks typically average two to four pounds, but individuals weighting above eight pounds have already been caught at the Aracá River.
Besides from the main attraction, you can enjoy catching other exotic species such as Apapás, Aruanãs, Traíras, and huge Piranhas, and for those Cat Fish aficionados Piraíbas, Pirararas and Surubins.
STRICTLY CATCH AND RELEASE
With the objective of minimizing ecologic impact, managing natural resources in a sustainable manner, and maintaining the peacock bass population as it is, the Aracá Camp is very strict regarding the principals of Sport Fishing. The rules of Catch and Release must always be respected.
